Escallonia is a bushy evergreen with thick, shiny green leaves and clusters of tubular pink, red or white flowers from late spring into the summer months. The blooms are sweetly scented and attract bees and butterflies. A South American native, it stands up well to wind, salty air and dry spells, and makes a nice informal hedge or foundation plant.
