Baptisia australis
A long-lived perennial that forms a shrubby clump of blue-green leaves with spikes of indigo-blue, pea-like flowers in spring, followed by dark seed pods. It is tough, deer resistant and drought tolerant once settled, a great fit for sunny borders and native or pollinator gardens.
- Full sun to part shade
- Spring flower spikes loved by bees
- Grows about 3–4 ft tall and wide
Care: Water regularly the first season, then only during long dry spells. Cut back in late winter; it is fully cold hardy in North Texas and dislikes being moved once established.
