Ficus carica cultivars
Figs are among the easiest fruit to grow in North Texas, with big lobed leaves and sweet fruit in summer. Celeste is a cold-hardy, small brown sugar fig; Black Jack bears large purple figs on a compact plant; Little Miss Figgy is a dwarf ideal for patios and containers.
- Full sun
- Self-fruitful, no pollinator needed
- Grows about 4–15 ft tall depending on variety
- Varieties: Celeste, Black Jack, Little Miss Figgy, LSU Purple, LSU Gold, Texas Everbearing
Care: Water deeply in summer and mulch the roots. A hard freeze can damage stems, but plants usually regrow from the base.
