Hamelia patens
A heat-loving shrub covered in red-orange tubular flowers from summer to frost. Hummingbirds and butterflies flock to it, and it shrugs off the hottest Texas weather.
- Full sun
- Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies
- Grows about 3–5 ft tall in a season
Care: Drought tolerant once established. Freezes to the ground in DFW winters and usually regrows from the roots with a thick mulch layer; it is not reliably perennial in hard winters.
