Lycium barbarum
Goji is a sprawling deciduous shrub with arching stems, small purple flowers in summer, and bright red, oval berries that ripen from late summer into fall. It is a tough, heat-loving fruiting shrub for a sunny edible garden or along a fence.
- Full sun
- Edible red berries, eaten fresh or dried
- Grows about 4–8 ft tall and wide; can be pruned smaller
- Tolerates heat, drought and alkaline soil once established
Care: Water regularly the first year, then deeply but infrequently; well-drained soil is a must. Prune in late winter to control size. Fully cold hardy in North Texas.
