Hydrangea macrophylla, H. paniculata and H. quercifolia cultivars
A mix of bigleaf, panicle and oakleaf hydrangeas for big summer blooms. Bigleaf types bring mophead color, panicle types carry cone-shaped white heads that age to pink, and oakleaf types add bold leaves with red fall color. Best on the east or north side of a North Texas house.
- Morning sun with afternoon shade (panicle types take more sun)
- Large summer flower heads; several varieties rebloom
- Grows about 3–8 ft tall depending on variety
- Varieties: DreamCloud, Ruby Slippers, Limelight Prime, Summer Crush, Limelight (Tree Form), Bloomstruck, Little Lime, Blushing Bride, Alice
Care: Keep soil evenly moist and mulched; they wilt fast in July heat. Prune panicle types in late winter and bigleaf/oakleaf types right after flowering.
