Aspidistra elatior
A nearly indestructible evergreen with tall, dark green, strap-like leaves rising straight from the ground. It thrives in deep shade under trees and along north walls where most plants fail.

- Tolerates dry shade and neglect
- Grows about 2–3 ft tall, spreading slowly
Care: Water during long dry spells and keep out of direct afternoon sun, which scorches leaves. Cut out damaged leaves at the base. Hardy in North Texas.
