Portulacaria afra
Elephant's Food is a succulent shrub with small, round, jade-like leaves on woody stems. Cut back the top and it spreads low to cover ground; clip the sides and it heads upward with plenty of character. It handles both strong summer sun and shady spots, making it one of the more flexible succulents for a yard.
- Drought tolerant with very little upkeep
- Likes sandy soil that drains fast
- Shield young plants from frost
