Fraxinus pennsylvanica
Green ash is a native shade tree with glossy compound leaves and an upright, rounded crown that turns yellow in fall. It grows quickly and handles clay soil, wet spots and heat, so it has long been planted for shade in North Texas yards.

- Grows about 50–60 ft tall and 35–45 ft wide
- Yellow fall color
Care: Water deeply during the first two summers; once established it tolerates drought and poor drainage. Emerald ash borer is now present in North Texas, so preventive treatment is worth planning for. Fully cold hardy.
