Phlomis fruticosa
A Mediterranean evergreen shrub with fuzzy gray-green leaves and whorls of bright yellow hooded flowers stacked up the stems in late spring. It shrugs off heat, drought and deer, making it a strong pick for xeriscapes, rock gardens and sunny borders. The seed heads add winter interest.
- Full sun
- Drought tolerant and deer resistant
- Grows about 3–4 ft tall and wide
Care: Needs well-drained soil; avoid overwatering once established. Cut back lightly after blooming. Hardy in North Texas, though a hard freeze may burn foliage.
