Tagetes lucida
Mexican mint marigold is a bushy, heat-tough perennial herb with narrow, anise-scented leaves and a cheerful cover of golden-yellow flowers in fall. The leaves are a popular Southern substitute for tarragon, and the late blooms feed butterflies and bees.
- Full sun to part shade
- Golden fall flowers; edible, licorice-scented leaves
- Grows about 2–3 ft tall and wide
- Deer resistant and drought tolerant
Care: Water regularly until established, then only in extended dry spells. Cut back after frost; it usually returns from the roots in spring in North Texas.
